Democratic Mayors Association Statement on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Democratic Mayors Association (DMA) President Mayor Levar M. Stoney issued the following statement on Martin Luther King Jr. Day:

“Today, Democratic Mayors celebrate the enduring legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a beacon of hope and a steadfast champion of democracy. As we honor his life and work, we recognize the importance of preserving the principles he so passionately fought for. We are also reminded of our sacred duty to uphold democracy and confront society’s pressing challenges head-on. As we enter this election year, we must heed Dr. King’s call for inclusive leaders who seek to protect the rights of all Americans, especially those who have been marginalized. In this pivotal moment, we must reaffirm our commitment to electing individuals who mirror Dr. King’s values and pledge to protect democracy and justice for all. The Biden-Harris Administration and Democrats are dedicated to carrying his torch forward, working tirelessly to enact policies that uplift all communities and safeguard the rights of every American. We must continue to look to Dr. King’s principles as our guiding light, propelling us forward in the ongoing fight for justice, inclusion, and progress. Let us honor his legacy each day by continuing to build a more just and equitable society for all.”
