Democratic Mayors Association Praises President Biden’s Budget Proposal

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Democratic Mayors Association (DMA) President Mayor Levar M. Stoney released the following statement in response to President Joe Biden’s budget proposal:

“President Joe Biden promised to grow the economy from the bottom up and middle out, and he continues to fulfill his promise. His new budget proposal demonstrates his continued commitment to finishing the job and helping millions of working families.

Over the past few years, we have experienced historic job growth and record investments being made to ensure families can breathe a little easier. Today’s budget builds on that progress and outlines plans to invest in America, lower costs for families, and protect and strengthen bedrock programs like Medicare and Social Security. The budget also delivers on his commitment to fiscal responsibility. It will reduce the deficit by nearly $3 trillion over the next decade by cutting wasteful spending on special interests and making the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share.

As Mayors, we applaud the President’s budget and know it will help us advance critical work in our communities. These investments will help make our communities safer and combat more crime, expand affordable housing to more residents, tackle the climate crisis,  and lower health care and childcare costs.
