WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Democratic Mayors Association (DMA) proudly congratulates John Ewing Jr. on his groundbreaking election as the next Mayor of Omaha, Nebraska. DMA President Mayor Justin M. Bibb released the following statement:

By defeating a three-term Republican incumbent, John has not only flipped this critical seat but also made history as the first Black mayor of Omaha. With over four decades of service to the Omaha community, including a distinguished career in the Omaha Police Department and nearly two decades as Douglas County Treasurer, John brings unmatched experience and deep integrity to City Hall. He has spent his life delivering results, building trust, and fighting for safer streets, better infrastructure, and more opportunities for working families. DMA was proud to support John’s campaign, and we look forward to seeing all that he will accomplish for the people of Omaha.”

His tenure includes nearly 25 years with the Omaha Police Department, where he rose to the rank of Deputy Chief, and 18 years as Douglas County Treasurer. Ewing emphasizes restoring public trust, enhancing public safety, and improving infrastructure. He advocates for strategic and equitable road construction and repair plans, ensuring that city services meet the needs of all Omaha residents.
