WCJB 20: City of Gainesville rolling out next phase of Community F.I.R.S.T. initiative

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - The City of Gainesville is continuing to roll out the next phase of their Community F.I.R.S.T. initiative in seven neighborhoods across the city, after starting back in 2022.

The initiative, with the acronym standing for Facilitative, Innovative, Responsive, Supportive and Timely, is an effort to help residents with problem-solving through regular outreach. It is being led by Gainesville Fire Rescue.

Using tools such as the myGNV app as well as having in-person meetings, the city is working to identify the concerns of residents, including traffic issues, street lights, as well as pedestrian safety.

“Community F.I.R.S.T. is about building trust - showing neighbors that the city hears them, and that we act quickly on those issues they raise,” said City Manager Cynthia W. Curry.
