Democratic Mayors Association Statement on President Trump’s Executive Order on Sanctuary Cities

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Democratic Mayors Association (DMA) President Mayor Justin M. Bibb issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump's Executive Order on sanctuary cities: 

“Once again, President Donald Trump is choosing spectacle over solutions. His latest executive order is a dangerous overreach targeting sanctuary cities and does nothing to address the real challenges of our broken immigration system.

As Democratic mayors, we know reform is needed. But Trump isn’t focused on real change or public safety — he’s focused on intimidation, targeting mayors who refuse to bow to his political agenda.

We are ready to work with the federal government on real immigration reform. But until we have a genuine partner in Washington, Democratic mayors will continue doing what we do best: keeping our cities safe and keeping America’s economy strong.”
